JVC GR-AXM151 to Computer? Firewire???

Lalla Posted Apr 24, 2007

Is there a reasonable way to hook up a JVC Camcorder GR-AXM151 to a desktop computer?

I just got back from buying a Firewire (cable). The guy said it would work as long as the camera was less then 10 yrs old. Its not my camera, but my neighbors and she said it was only about half that age....but I can't find a way to hook it up. We have a new litter of kittens. I have tried to film them (they are hidden under a tv cabinet) from newborn to day (5 days old)... I hate to think that I will lose these pictures because I can't make any stills from the video. Is there a way to do this? I read something about a $300 "thing" that JVC made, but come on.... I can buy a NEW camera for myself for that price! Any ideas on how I can get these pics??? Even if I have to hook up camera to VCR and hook VCR to computer... anything? HELP!!!! Thanks ~

The camcorder you have being a VHS-C model is analogue, NOT digital!, and as such cannot be coupled into a PC unless the PC has a "analogue capture card" fitted into it. (firewire is only for digital to digital devices) Analogue cards can be a bit pricey as well as the fact you require some form of manipulation software installed in your PC to edit etc the video, and so its sometimes better to purchase a simple DVD recorder and transfer you video into that using an AV lead to couple the two devices together.
