Needing to know which mode the camera has to be in to charge. Need help ASAP

I'm borrowing a friends JVC GR-D53AA video camera and can't remember which mode she told me it needed to be in to charge it, whether it was 'Play' mode or 'A' for.. auto? I currently have it in 'Play' mode and the Power/charge light is on, so I'm assuming it's charging then. Is that right?
