DVD player display stuck on -loading- and won't work

The player is about 3 years old, thought it was turned ofof, but then realised the display was just flashing the word 'loading'. Cannot open the dvd drawer, or get any of the other buttons to work. After turning it off and then on again (from the power outlet), the same thing keeps happeneing.
