Re[2]: DCS-P30 error E:61:20

SiLlY Posted Jun 21, 2007, in response to:Merv Clelland

I too have this error. Well.. being that the cost of repair was equal to or more than the price of the camera, I decided to take it apart myself. What I discovered is that the error code has to do with the viewfinder. My error code is accompanied by a funky gear grinding sound. It helped me find the problem, some what. I took the viewfinder apart and the motor feels wobbly. The gears look fine. I am not saying this is the problem. Merely letting you guys know it is viewfinder related. My next step will be to see if parts can be purchased. I would like to replace it as whole and see if that fixes it. Good luck!

In my cybershot DSC-S40, I noticed the motor "axle" seemed wobbly, also. So I looked more closely, and found that the plastic that fits over the mechanism has little holes in which the various axles set, keeping them in place.
