Standby or shutdown problem

I have a problem with my jvc GR-DF470 DV Camcorder shuting off after a few minutes. I turn it on while it is on a tripod then after five to ten minutes the LCD goes blank and I cannot record without turning the camcorder off then back on. If turned on and left on the tripod ready for recording (but not recording) it will turn off. I can't find any option to disable this if it is an option and not a fault. It behaves like it goes to sleep but nothing wakes it up without turning it off then back on. Both (M) Manual and (A) Automatic setting does this. Any known problem at JVC headquarters of is there a hidden option in the menu to prevent this?
