JVC GR-DVL300

Error 4 temporary fix

I know this thread has been ongoing for quite a while, but I just got a GR-DVL300 and only about 2 hours into use I started getting the ER04 message. (this is a used camera, I'm not sure how old). Anyway, after trying all the fixes here that didn't work for me. I took the tape out and removed the battery and used a hairdryer on the low heat setting on the innards of the unit. That worked for a few min. of play time..then I got the clean head message. I took a cotton swab with alochol and genlty wiped down the rollers in the tape drive areas, and then 'dried' the area out with the hair dryer again. It seems to be working for about an hour so far, so try this before dropping you camera from a high place...All I can say is shame on JVC to allow this problem to get so widespread, and them just discontinue the models, instead of standing behind their products and coming up with a fix.

Yes, but if the "clean head" message came on its the actual spinning drum video heads that require cleaning, as when they get slightly contaminated the symptoms can be the "clean head" warning, or broken / streaky images during playback with a blue screen showing now and again, or in some cases even E-04 being displayed, as the CPU triggers an E-04 warning when it detects a malfunction in the data stream from the video head / sensor for some reason or another.
