dead cam corder

My DVL355E just died. I was trying to video with the lens cap on ( not clever ) took it off and everything failed. It won't charge I can't download from the USB port. I know it can't literally be anything to do with taking the lense cap off . I have used it very little but used head cleaning tape recently. Took battery out etc still nothing haven't resorted to violence yet but will if no one replies - here's hoping!!!!!!!!
