Re[2]: Sony Trinitron TVs

Try running the hair dryer on high heat over the right back side of the TV, where you can hear the switch trying to come on. There seems to be a humidity cut-off switch designed into the controll system, desiged to eliminate arching of power during high humidity. It's been working for me particularly in the mornings when the room has not warmed up yet, and the timer lite is blinking near the on-off switch. Two to three minutes with the dryer on high seems to work. Have a happy new year, Dan.

Hi, I have a sony trinitron Model #KV-32hs500 where there seems to be a power on issue. When the power on button is pressed from the unit or from the remote, the unit will blink several times but remains in standby mode only. This has been going on for several months now. The unit was purchased in 2003 from the Sony store. I have just tried the hair dryer solution above which worked. I guess I will continue to use this method if it acts up again

When I read this post I thought this is too simple not to try, so I did it. And much to my amaze, it worked!!! I blew the hot air on top at the end of the tube, I could smell a litlle mildew, after thinking about it, we have the AC running, which cools the tube down, and when it is turned on, it's like taking a cold can of pop out of the refridgerator. It forms condesation on it. I don't think the manufacturer has allowed enough venting in the back of the set. I was thinking some sort of dessicant would help inside of the case. Anyways thanks for this tip!!

It works! Had to do it twice, for a total of about five minutes. Come to think of it, I usually run a dehumidifier in the winter, but lately the weather has been mild but HUMID, and I had windows and doors open. Thanks for this great tip.

I had moved my 27'' Sony Trinitron to the basement after buying a Sharp Aquos for the family room. Shortly after that the Sony would only come on for a few minutes and shut off . First the picture followed by the sound . I tried the blow dryer trick and the TV has been working fine for hours . I guess I'll have to move it back upstairs if I want to use it . Thanks for the info . Mac
