DVD working, woofer has stopped working

DVD working, woofer has stopped working - green light on woofer when connected to DVD, but the fan doesn't start on the woofer and no sound comes out of the connected speakers. If the fan fails to start does this prevent the woofer from working - or could this be caused by some other problem. Could it be as simple as the fuse in the woofer? I fear I may need a new woofer but I am not very technically minded and would like some guidance on this matter - Thank you - UK resident.
