Are you absolutely positive that the AV lead you are using is OK? without touching any settings, take the yellow plug (video) out of the TV's corresponding yellow socket and put it into the one you are using for the sound, if the lead has video signals from the camcorder in it you will hear a buzzing sound through the TV's speakers. If that model of camcorder uses a jack plug for the AV out at the camcorder end, make sure you are pushing it fully into the socket, as that can also cause no video problems. By the way you dont normally see any of the camcorders settings info via anything other than the LCD / viewfinder, this is to stop it being accidentally being recorded.
