It depends on if you are meaning that you can still see the tape indications on an "external" TV monitor or is it just on the LCD / viewfinder? as with the the display information switched off (page 54 Advanced features) the speed should not be seen on anything "external" that the camcorder is connected to, only on the LCD / viewfinder.
