Poor picture quality for still images with - GRD74U camcorder

Hi.. I bought 'GRD74u' camcorder in Hongkong during Mar'05. I am very happy with vedio part, but when it comes to still images,( either dubbed from vedio tape or shot directly on SD memory card ) the picture quality is very poor. Is there any remedy for this, in otherwords, is ther any right settings to get good picture quality for still images? Hoping to hearing from you soon with a positive reply. Thanking you, Have a good day, Satya

Just to add to what was mentioned, on checking the manual I see that the maximum DSC quality obtainable on that model is 1024 x 768, and which should give reasonable results on snapshot mode if its set to "fine" and not standard. However it has to be said that although acceptable (to non critical eyes!) it will obviously not come up to the quality standard obtainable on other models than have higher resolution settings such as 1280 x 960 or 1600 x 1200. Everything else mentioned still applies.

Well it depends entirely on what you have set the DSC quality settings to be, as on the lower 640x480 setting the quality will not be much better than is obtainable from a lower end camera phone, however on the higher 1600x1200 (should that model have that setting) the quality will be quite good. It should be said though that still images taken from an actual video will in many cases not be very satisfactory to a critical eye, as the quality obtainable can greatly vary dependant on whether the subject is stationary or not.
