As regards to the circumstances of the boards failure, although not being fully acquaint with that particular model I cant for the life of me see what harm could possibly be done to "any" electronic circuit board by being scanned by magnetic or even X-ray equipment, as these radiation sources are only harmful to magnetic storage material like tapes (if it was installed in camcorder or carrying bag) or a non magnetically screened miniature hard drive. (which doesnt apply to your model) I suspect that its a coincidence that this occurred.
