Having trouble with my handycam.

Every time i go to camera it beeps three times and wont let me record. It shows me a symbol that looks like a tape and then an arrow with a line under it. I have tride differant tapes but still does the same thing. It does not do it all the time but it does it alot more than it works. I can watch what is on the tape but it just wont record. If you can help i would really appriciate it.
