Sony Wega KP51 when swiched on sound comes on for 6 seconds then turns off. there is red blinking light w/c was previously a steady green light on main control panel

Here are the details of the defective TV. Hope you can help fix the problem SONY WEGA PROJECTION TV MODEL KP-FW51M31 SER NO 1000706 Problem: On stand by, there is a blinking red light. When the tv is switched on from the remote, a red light starts blinking then the sound goes on without a picture then switches off after 5-6 seconds. When the tv was working well a steady green light is on. Now, the green light appears only after the tv is switched off from the tv set and when switched on again from the remote the red light blinks, sound comes on then tv swithches off after 5-6 seconds. On rare occasions like yesterday, the tv picture turns on and all is ok. we watched tv for about 7 hours but the red light still blinks and not a steady green light. --
