I had the same issue with my Sony DCR PC9. Chstted online with Sony support who instructed that I power on the camera, and press the Reset button. But I kept having the same problem. Then I took the tape out AND the sony memory card. Unplugged power, removed battery, plugged power back in, powered on - NO MORE ERROR!!! I'll keep the palm whack idea in back pocket in case this error comes up again. Good luck to you all.
