Isn't this the Sony version of the JVC's "lens cap problem?" a fault that offers a free repair if Sony is contacted. (Qualifications applying!) Image sensor modules were made by Sony and used in JVC - Canon - and quite a few other camcorders, that being why they all suffer from the same fault.
