Although I am not acquaint with Mac book devices which I believe can cause problems with what you are trying to do, but contrary to what I see mentioned in the old 2006 heading it should be pointed out that whether or not a PC is coupled via firewire it still requires some form of video "capture" software installed or you cannot transfer the video, Windows movie maker being the standard installed programme in non Mac devices.
