JVC GR-DVL767EK Digital Video Camera Error Code E06

Penny Langley Posted Apr 19, 2009

Unit in Safeguard Mode E06

I successfully made a recording of a concert but today, when I switched on the camera this message came up: "Unit In Safeguard Mode E06. Remove and re-insert battery". I did this but then it told me to remove tape and reinsert the tape. when I removed the tape it was loose with about two inches dangling outside the cassette. I wound it back in by hand and tried again with the same result. I tried another cassette (used a few days ago witout problems) but the result was the same. Please can you advise me how to rectify this fault? Thanks so much. Regards Penny

Unfortunately there is very little you can do if you have already tried another cassette, as the E-06 is a warning that the capstan spindle which drives the tape has not moved for more than 2 seconds even although it should have done, and in many cases its a very tightly wound cassette that has caused the problem by jamming the capstan. If you manage to get a tape to load do "not" try to play it but immediately rewind it end to end first as that hopefully will free the mechanism up. I am unaware as to what brand of tape you use, but TDK or Maxell brands are known to cause various drive problems in JVC camcorders, so only JVC - Panasonic or Fuji brands are the only ones recommended for use in JVC devices. PS: if you get an error code warnings leave the camcorder for over an hour before attempting to try it again, as "some" error codes have time factors built into them before they will clear, albeit that e-06 is not necessarily one of them.
