how to tranfer video using dv cable

Hi, I got an old working JVC GR-D30AS camcoder from my aunt. It has a dv port. How can I access the recorded video on the cassette on my camcoder to a PC with firewire port? Any software suggetion? Sorry for asking silly qns.

This should in theory be a relatively simple task, but your PC has to have some form of "capture" facility installed like "Windows movie maker", this being installed as standard in most PC's running Windows XP or Vista, if this applies open the programme and look for the "capture" icon, click on and follow the instructions. (Switch the camcorder on "after" the DVi cable is coupled up)
