problem capturing HD video from JVC GR HD-1 in FCP 6

I am having problems capturing HD video from the JVC GR HD-1 camera into Final Cut Pro 6. The only solution was to set the Sequence to Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30 and the Capture Preset to HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec and the Device Control to HDV Firewire...then start the camera in play mode and perform a Log and Capture. This defeats the entire reason for doing a Log and Capture.
