Re: Sony Trinitron TVs

Randall Stamps Posted Jul 23, 2009, in response to:anonymous

I have 2 Sony KV35S40 TV's with the same problem, when powered up I hear a relay click then the red standby light blinks at about 1 second intervals. I have replaced the power supply board and the main mother board with known good boards but did not fix the problem. I suspect the CRT could be bad, but both TV's having bad picture tube at the same time is very unlikely. I read an article online that mentioned IC 301 called the Jungle chip could be the problem in both TV's. I would like to try to fix the problem, but that chip is very expensive. I have a friend who owns a TV repair shop and he said in the last 10 years he has had more Sony TV's with bad CRT's than he has seen in a long time. Sony needs to address this problem of reliability on their TV's. I also have a Sony Trinitron 27" that I have been watching for 20 years and never had a problem with it. If anyone ever figures out how to fix the problem on these KV35S40 TV's please email the me with the correct fix for the problem. Thank you Respectfully, Randall Stamps

have a KV36FS10 with the exact same problems as your 2 sets. I have spent some time on this set trying to determine the cause of the sets shutdown. All my power supply voltages are good except -15 v (at -14.1 volts). Checked all shutdown inputs into the Jungle IC (IC355) and everything seems to be good. IC355 is also putting out vertical signals. If U have any help on this - please drop me a line. If U replaced mother board in your sets then U put in a new IC355 (jungle IC). Other thing to check is yoke on CRT and also CRT heater. When U replaced mother board - U also replace tuner ? Could be tuner SDA is low which shutdowns Jungle IC. Thanks, John
