Are you 100% positive that the battery is indeed a JVC original and not one thats printed up to look like it? as the problem you mention is always usually associated with charging up a replacement type no matter how good its quality might be. Does the battery you refer to have a socket in it? if it has use a jumper between it and the DC input on the camcorder and everything should work OK, although you wont see any battery power remaining indication on the LCD.
