need help resetting my stereo, the word "PROTECT" is stuck on the screen and it won't function at all, muted

the word "PROTECT" is on the screen and there is no sopund or anything it will not function at all, I have tried every button and tried everything I can to make the message go off and use my stereo but to no avail!!! Please help someone tell me how to undo what someone must have accidentally did to it.
