Re: Sony Trinitron TVs

Mark Damato Posted Mar 28, 2010, in response to:anonymous

I have a Sony KV 40XBR800. Loved the picture untill I experienced a problem that seems so many are having with these tv's. Tried turning it on one day and would not. Got 6 blinks at first, then started to get 7 blinks. Looks like from what I read it's the mxz3001d that needs replacing. Sony should just replace these boards for free, but first correct the problem with them. Lots of people spent thousands on these to get just a few years out of them. What a waste! The chips are cheap, but the labor is not. The sad part is I'll probably be throwing it out.

you can get someone to solder in two "socket kits" for the mc3001d ic power chips and if they go out again, you just pop out the old ones and pop in the new ones for cost of the chips ($12.00). Cost me about $225.00 to have someone do it, or you can try it yourself. Soldering is not hard to do, but requires some patience and good eyes. Might save yourself the cost of a new tv, and parts are cheap. the socket kits are cheap, too. good luck.
