JVC 36980 no power

Tom Posted Mar 30, 2010

JVC 36980 no power..capicitor? Power supply? Fuse?

I cannot find the directions for locating the capacitor on this model. I see references to Tom P's advice on this but cannot find it here. Can you direct me to it? Won't turn on. Been taking a while to warm up lately. Storms last night, this morning no power. Is there a fuse to look for when I open it up? How do I see if it's a power supply, not the capacitor? Thanks! Tom

Meant to add that the advice is given taking it that you can still see a red light flashing on front of the TV, if not then the input fuse has likely gone and it should be located on the board close to the area where the mains power lead enters the set.

Not actually acquaint at working on that set except to know that it suffers from the notorious C926 cap problem, and as a rough guide to its location look slightly on the right hand side of the middle of the board and you should see a heat-sink with an IC mounted on it, the capacitor should be located near to that. Its rated at 1000ufd @35volts, and although this is OK its best to try to get one rated at 50volts, also make sure its a radial type you get where the two wires come out at the same side, and not the other version where they are at each end. Note very carefully the polarity position on the board and make sure the new cap is inserted with its + to + on the PCB, as if not done it will blow shortly after switching the set on.
