trinitron won't turn on, has blinking "stand by" red light.

I am amazed at the number of folks experiencing the same thing as I am! Last week my set wouldn't turn on, only the blinking red "stand by" light next to the power button. The next day I tried it, it worked. Third day, no picture. This Sony is only 8 - 10 years old!
