Re[3]: Sony MDR-IF0230

Michael Wimmer Posted Jul 31, 2010, in response to:Lorene

I saw that there were several posts for the Sony MDR-IF0230 cordless headphones. I happen to have a working set in near-mint condition. Pads have no discernable wear, and the unit comes on automatically when you put the set on, as it is supposed to, the volume dial moves effortlessly with no crackling or noises. I am unable to locate a single scratch, dent or any defacing mark on the unit, so I would have to deem them in near-mint condition. I say near-mint, as I have no box or documentation (the latter of which can be downloaded from the internet--but apparently comes as a page of what amounts to "honorable mention" in the manual for the 36" television with which these headphones came). I obtained the set from someone who did not understand that the headphones required a transmitter with a specific frequency to be of any use other than a source of "white noise." After doing a only a little digging into where to acquire the appropriate transmitter, it now appears that I probably can not do so, absent attempting to build my own--which, a) I am not certain would work, and b) it seems like an awful lot of hassle to go through for something that would be a mild convenience at best. In addition, I did own a 36" Sony TV, but I do not recall whether the model number was the correct one--and it does not matter, because my ex-wife got that along with virtually everything else. Sony no longer sells this model, but instead now has the MDR-IF240RK, which Sony sells for $59.99 (why the hell doesn't everyone start adding that last freakin' penny, and do away with the nonsense of all the nines? If every market did so on every item they carry and used those pennies toward the national debt, we might never get to a quadrillion dollars! But I digress...) As to my price--I am asking $35 plus half the shipping. In truth, I did consider selling them for a little less, but I have been unemployed for over 2.5 years, and it seems the long road of extensions has come to an end. So, if anyone is interested, please let me know by responding to this post. Thanks, everyone. Blessings... Michael Wimmer
