A non standard remedy that sometimes works is with the battery removed thump (not recklessly though!) the underside of the camcorder onto a book or similar then reinstall the battery again, as its suspected that this fault is caused by a defective sensor not having made properly and thumping the camcorder as instructed jolts the offending sensor into operation.
