Re[3]: sony camcorder

JB38 Posted Dec 10, 2010, in response to:jefroe20

Unfortunately Jeff I am unable to supply spares for Sony equipment as I am only involved with JVC devices, and even at that have to order whatever I may require as and when necessary.

My reply to you was only really for purposes of giving you a service tech's opinion as far as fault finding on the problem was concerned as I suspected that there was a very great possibility that you would waste money by obtaining an LCD only to find out that the problem was still there, because as previously mentioned unless the LCD has been physically damaged the problem you mention is nearly always caused by a defective ribbon cable due to one of its strands breaking in the LCD's swivel hinge area.

Although its very unlikely that it is, but another test you could do to ensure that its not one of the more dastardly faults in evidence is to couple your camcorders A/V output up to a TV's A/V input sockets and select that input on the TV, the cable for this usually being a 3.5mm jack at the camcorder end to two (or three) coloured phono plugs, the yellow being the video.

If you see a normal image on the TV when the camcorder is switched on then its just the ribbon or LCD at fault, as a matter of fact a small portable battery powered LCD TV (should you have one) could be used in an emergency to replace the camcorders LCD monitor by using its A/V input sockets, most of these type of TV's having them.

I only mention this in case you cant get a new ribbon in time for Christmas, the ribbon by the way being reasonably easy to fit "if" you have a set of small screwdrivers of the type used for dismantling mobile phones, these usually T6 size plus on odd occasions a miniature straight head type.

Hoping this further info may assist somewhat.

Regards - John.
