I bought a surplus Sony ccd v5000 from my employer and found that it has some problems. I am an electrical engineer, former technician, and amateur radio operator so I have a good background in electronic equipment. I have also done some vcr repair over the years so I would like to try to fix it myself.

When I select VTR on the switch, the drum starts spinning but the fingers do not pull the tape down around the drum. I haven't gone beyond that point yet, but I think that maybe it is a broken belt. If so, where can I get a replacement belt? And if I am wrong, what else could it be?

The second problem is that when I switch it to camera, I get a dark viewer screen with just zeros for the time and a flashing up-arrow symbol on the lcd screen. None of the controls have any effect. The camera is in mint physical condition and was very gently used but it has been sitting idle for several years. I got some very expensive accessories with it that would make the price very reasonable even without the camera but I sure would like to get it in working condition. If dealer repair would not be too expensive, I would even go that route but the "tinkerer" in me would like to fix it myself.

HI, I am repairing such cameras as a hobby and you have all symptoms that I usually face in such cameras. Basically, before replacing any mechanical part, I strongly suggest you to have a close look at all Chemical Capacitors that are surface mounted. They are usually the source of all problems in such camera and you need to exchange them all (about 50 capacitors overall). When you unmount them you can see that they are Fled capacitors... Hope this helps. Alain

Thanks, I will try that. Do you know if a service manual is available for this camera? Morgan

Apparently, Sony Corp. has discontinued a certain accessory that I seem to have misplaced. It is for a Sony Video Camera Recorder 8, Model CCD-V110. The component I am in search of is: Sony Model RFU-87UC (Part #146467511). If you have one for sale, I am interested in purchasing it from you. Hello,

I am looking for the original Sony viewfinder that was supplied with the Inframetrics PM250's. These are infrared cameras that used third party parts (viewfinders, batteries, etc.).

Do you know where I may begin looking for replacement parts other than the company who purchased Inframetrics which is now Flir. These infrared cameras are early 1990's vintage.

    Thank you,

    David Lyman
