Jeff - 14th Mar 2007 16:26 ADD ME TO THE LIST!! God I love the internet! My AV32980 quit working just like all the others on this forum. Working fine, then all of the sudden, boom, won't turn on. I was literally looking through the yellow pages to decide which repair shop to take it to, when I decided to just check the internet for any tips on repairing a JVC TV. Found this forum, read the other problem descriptions just like mine, figured that had to be it. In 45 minutes I went to Radio Shack, bought the 1000uf capacitor, got into the TV chassis, found the cap, de-soldered it, soldered in the new one, and walla! Working fine now. Forums like this are just an incredible resource for the folks. Obviously I would NEVER have even begun to know where to look for the problem without this help. Here's a little more info for those who follow: The capacitor you will find at Radio Shack is an AXIAL LEAD type, meeaning it has a wire lead coming out of each end of the device. The capacitor you will take out of the TV is a RADIAL LEAD type, meaning it has both leads coming out of one end. Don;t let this difference bother you. Just bend the leads so they will fit into the hole spacing on the PCB and position the new cap. nice and snug down. The capacitor is marked with which lead is negative. The board is marked with which hole is positive. As long as you get the polarity right the new style will work fine. Also, as suggested in this forum I went ahead and bought the 50 volt capacitor, hoping it will last longer. Seems to work fine so I would suggest that for others. It cost $2.59 instead of $1.69 for the 35v.

I have a JVC AV32985 with a similar problem as the ones previously described but I do not know if it the same. The TV can not be powered on but the TIMER LED IS FLASHING (a symptom that I have not seen described in the previous cases of other persons). If I unplug the TV for a while and reconnect, I hear the TV screen going ON for about 5 seconds but it remain black then turns itself of and the timer led start flashing again.
Please let me know if it is the same problem and I should do the C926 capacitor thing. Thanks in advance for helping me.
Steve

I would bet that your TV shares the same circuit board with the others. Just a different size screen. I would try the capacitor replacement, it won;t hurt it if it is wrong.

John - 16th Oct 2007 19:18 I have the same problem with a 36980.
You can hear the Flyback fire for a few seconds when turned on and then the Flashing timer LED.
The C926 cap is mushroomed so I am going to replace it this weekend.
I hope that's the problem.
Any luck Steve in finding the problem with your set?
If so what did they tell you it was?
Thanks
John

What capacitor are you talking about. I am having the same problem that it will not turn on and the fuse looks ok.

I did this a long time ago and I do not have the specifics on the capacitor any more. But I got the exact info from the within the thread of the forum topic, so if you search and read thru the history of the forum thread you should find it. I do remember it is a large cylindrical cap., navy blue (or maybe black?) with white stripe, standing verticle approximately in the center of the circuit board pretty much all by itself. You might be able to see damage to it if the cap/ is bulging or scorched. I don;t recall the size but it was given in the forum postings and I found it easily at Radio Shack. IF you see such a cap. in the center of the board, but you can;t find the info in the forum, you could get the size number off of the cap., go buy one, and replace it and see if that is it. It will come with long leads with will have to be clipped. Also it may come with axial leads instead of end leads so you may have to bend them to fit in the board holes. Sorry this is all I remember. Look thru the forum history it should be

OK a re-read the forum. It was a 1000uF, 35 V capictor. IT is just about right in the middle of the circuit board, standing verticle, a large cylindrical capacitor, can;t miss it. Replace with a 1000uF, 50V cap.

Cap. is marked C

Capacitor is marked C926 on the circuit board.

It worked! My son gave me his old JVC AV 32980 that quit just like the others in this post.I haven't fixed a TV since they had tubes and were hand wired so I took the chassis to a local shop and showed them C926,the capacitor to replace. They had the 1000uf 50v capacitor and put it in for $10.00 while I waited. The guy said that that fix probably would not work, but he checked the old capacitor and it tested bad. After I replaced the chassis I called the shop back to say what a good job they did and how good the picture looked! I'm so glad Al Gore invented the internet. My capacitor was black and right near another that was smaller, but right where the posts said it was, right of dead center about 5 o'clock.

The problem is that when I turn the camera on it doesn't show any picture and displays "LENS CAP" even though the lens cap is removed. The probable cause is a failure of the CCD image sensor from JVC Factory. Can you provide some instructions to fix the problem? JVC DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA MODEL: GR-D23E Year 2004
- JVC Color TV - AV-32980 - would not shut off, unplugged, now will not turn on
Dan Shire - 19th Jul 2009 22:25 I was out of the house when my wife tried to turn off the TV, so I'm repeating what she explained. The remote would not turn the set off, when she hit the remote power button, the tv would cycle off and then immediately back on again (the relay clicked twice - on the way off, then back on).
Being practical, she tried the power switch on the TV with the same result. The set cycled off and then immediately on again (relay clicks twice). It did this several times.
So, she unplugged the set's power bar as she was going to be out of the house for several days.
When I got back 2 days later, and plugged the power bar in the set would not turn on from the remote or the set's power switch. It seems completely dead (other devices like the VCR are fine, plugged into the power bar). I would have suspected the capacitor problem mentioned elsewhere (C926), except for the odd symptoms before the set died.
I couldn't find any reference to a circuit breaker on the tv, I suspect a sticky power relay is the problem. At 11 year old, I'm inclined now to replace the tv with an LCD model
Any other suggestions, thanks, Dan.
