Sony Trinitron display malfunction. HELP!!!

Sony Trinitron display malfunction. HELP!!!

I have a 32” Sony Trinitron (KV-32S45). I bought the unit new. Normally when the unit is turned on the screen would stay black for 3-4 seconds then come on. This “warm-up time” was consistent until a few months ago. I noticed that the screen was gradually taking longer to “warm-up”. Along with this problem came another very annoying one. While watching the T.V. the screen would go black for just a second then come right back on. At first it would happen once a week or so but gradually increased in frequency. The severity of the flashing seemed relative to the lengthening warm-up time. Now if I turn the T.V. on it will flash from black screen to picture (which by the way is crappy) quickly like a strobe light. After 15 minuets or so the flashing will slow to about 3-5 flashes per min. It does this whether I’m watching cable, DVD, or playing a video game. The television is a little over 5 years old. I removed the back and looked for any burnt or broken solder connections but found none although the inside of the T.V. is VERY dusty. No repair/service shop in the town I live in will touch a Sony Trinitron. I have a high aptitude for fixing things like this but I need to know where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

My Sony Trinitron kept turning itself on and off too. I removed the back and used a can of Electronic dust off to blow off the dust. I've done that a month ago and it has not done it since. So I suggest blowing it off and see if it works for you.

What would we do without Google....and you! SCREEN pot hit with contact cleaner, tweaked...good as new. Gad! Already bought a 32" LCD for the bedroom...well, my wife's happy about it! Thanks!

Dug a big hole in the back yard and put my sony in it. Went to Walmart and bought a vizio. Now my TV works just fine.

YES...I listened to JPY and everything he/she wrote was right. I pulled the panel off, swept the dust as best I could and followed the red lead down to the yoke. 2 black screws and tweaked it and viola. I'm good. don't know for how long but hey, I'll take it.

The 'screen screw' worked!! I encountered the flickering black screen recently and thought I'd have to buy a new tv. Low and behold, I found this forum last night, printed out the instructions and made the adjustment in just a couple of minutes. I found that I had to only turn the screen screw just a couple of millimeters clockwise and my problem was fixed. Thank you so much!

My Sony Trinitron was turning greener and greener by the day. I thought my tv was a goner, but I just used the fix posted in this forum and it worked! I was worried because I've been low on cash lately, so I couldn't afford a new tv. And, I didn't know what to do with it if it was broken since it's in an upstairs bedroom and weighs a ton. I was considering throwing it out the window, but this fix solved all my problems. Thank you so much!
