Sony Trinitron display malfunction. HELP!!!

I have a 32” Sony Trinitron (KV-32S45). I bought the unit new. Normally when the unit is turned on the screen would stay black for 3-4 seconds then come on. This “warm-up time” was consistent until a few months ago. I noticed that the screen was gradually taking longer to “warm-up”. Along with this problem came another very annoying one. While watching the T.V. the screen would go black for just a second then come right back on. At first it would happen once a week or so but gradually increased in frequency. The severity of the flashing seemed relative to the lengthening warm-up time. Now if I turn the T.V. on it will flash from black screen to picture (which by the way is crappy) quickly like a strobe light. After 15 minuets or so the flashing will slow to about 3-5 flashes per min. It does this whether I’m watching cable, DVD, or playing a video game. The television is a little over 5 years old. I removed the back and looked for any burnt or broken solder connections but found none although the inside of the T.V. is VERY dusty. No repair/service shop in the town I live in will touch a Sony Trinitron. I have a high aptitude for fixing things like this but I need to know where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

This seems to be a common problem with Sony, especially on the 32s45 series. I've run across it three times so far at my repair shop. There's a bad solder joint on the underside of the main board...unfortunately I haven't been able to pinpoint it to any one specific place. If you slilde the pcb about halfway out of its tray and let it bend down and the problem goes away then you have to get out the pencil iron and carefully re-solder all those surface mounted components underneath. I THINK the offender is either around the big processor IC or somewhere in the quadrant around where the connector to the power board is. Good luck.

Below is the comment I posted today if I get any where I'll e-ya w/the solution. My 27" Sony KV27V10 has the same flashing on and have problem about every 8 seconds. But an otherwise perfect picture. It doesn't seem like theres an answer to this. What really stinks is I've got several Sony products (car CD, laptop etc.)that are great but after I throw this Sony away, I will never buy Sony for my home and (as purchaser for a lrg. U.S. corp)will terminate any future dealings. I will forward this to Sony's customer care before I toss the overweight Sony and will post their predictable response here and at 7 other web sites w/links
