Re: JVC GR - DVL805

I took my JVC to spring break in Cancun, Mexico and do not have any movies to show for it. Battery Safe Guard Mode came up the whole time, and I now realize that this is a common problem with JVC cameras as you can see if you search under JVC camcorder problems on the internet. The camera has been rarely used since it has been purchased. Circut City wants $280 to repair the camera and it will probably last 1 day longer than the guarantee. JVC camcorders are terrible. I can't believe JVC leagally gets away with making an inferior product, with every model having the same problem. Something should be done!!!

I have a GR-DVL805 My LCD screen stays blue when I am playing a tape that I know has video recorded on it. What is the problem and why is this happening? Please help.

Curtis - 2nd Mar 2005 15:52 I just had the same problem this morning - blue screen when I try to play a recorded tape, and was able to fix it (it seems). It may have been caused by my trying to control the camera through a DV connection with a Sony DVD recorder. Essentially, I fiddled with it.
I tried all the suggestions in the manual (reset the machine, take the battery out, etc.) but nothing worked. The machine was acting as if it couldn't read the tape (no date symbol), so perhaps it was not engaged. Finally, I opened the tape eject door WHILE the tape was in play mode. The tape ejected, but then when I reinserted the tape, the machine engaged the tape again and started to play. Maybe it was just luck, but I hope it works for you and, seemingly, many others who have had this problem. Other than this, I've generally been very happy with the camera - while a bit bigger than the latest models, it's easy to hold, and seems to have all the right features.

Thank you so very much Curtis. I opened the tape while playing and I detached the battery after and bye bye blue screen.
Thanks a million!

Buddy - 4th May 2005 1:33 I have the E04 problem when I need the camera most. If I am filming fungus grow, everything is fine. If I film a one time event such as a childs recital, I get the E04 take off battery and re-attach. It never works when needed most. I will NEVER buy another JVC product! (By the way, JVC's response is that the camera is fine. This is just a safeguard?!)
