My sony camera is getting the same E:61:00 error. Its been like this for a year now. Wondering if there is a cheap fix or is it time to junk it. The camera was perfect, before I took it apart to clean some dust out of it and put it back together. Now it just gives me the error every time I turn it on.
Please post if anyone here has had any luck getting the error fixed.

  Hi, I live in buenos aires, argentina, i had that E:61:00 error on my sony DSC-S30 display. i thouhgt of dropping the camera, but instead i read the great solution for this problem in http://www.fewin.com/sony/sony.htm AND IT WORKS!!!, and to tell you the truth, i didnt believe at the first time it would work!! but its true!! and i avoid taking the camera to a sony service center saving many bucks!! thanks to the internet!!

    FUNCIONA !!!!!!!!!!!! MUCHAS GRACIAS Explico en expañol: Apagar la camara Sujetar la camara a 2 cm de la mesa, con la lente hacia abajo encender Cuando se esté encendiendo el lente chocará con la mesa y no se abrirá por completo. Volverá a esconderse y saldrá de nuevo. En ese momento levantar la cámara para que la lente se extienda por completo. Y LISTO !!!!!!!!!! PS: Tengo la Sony DSC-P71

      Tenía el mismo problema. El servicio técnico de Sony me dijo que la lente estaba dañada y que el coste del arreglo superaba los 200€, decidí no arreglarla, y entonces me dijeron que al tener menos de tres años de compra me hacían un descuento del 50%, también decidí no arreglarla. Luego leí el método que propones para arregarla y ¡EUREKA! acabo de ahorrarme una cámara nueva. 1.- Puse la cámara con el objetivo a 2cm de la mesa 2.- Encendí y el objetivo salió, chocó contra la mesa y se escondió 3.- Al salir de nuevo el objetivo apunté al frente 4.- ¡PROBLEMA ARREGLADO! LA CÁMARA ENFOCA DE NUEVO

      Tengo el mismo problema solo que enciendo la camara y abre el archivo de fotos ok! luego cuando la coloco en el modo de tomare fotos se pone en negro por un buen rato, luego trta de enfocar y sale ese error.... Me pasa cada vez que la prendo pero pase como 1 mes sin prenderla y ahora el error no se quita, no funciona el zoom y no enfoca... intente lo que dice pero no se si es que no lo hice bien o que no sirve ya algo... gracias...

      mi camara es una sony DCR-HC32 y no se enfoca ni en manual ni en automatico me marca unas letras del error este "E:61:00" y me doy cuenta que tiene solo 2 puntos de enfoque uno a lo lejos y otro alo cerca que puedo hacer? ya que mi modelo no tiene lente ke salga el cuerpo de la camara?

    I just tried "dropping method" i have cybershot DSC-P120, same error E:61:00 I dropped it on my wooden table. It works perfectly after first drop. I am surprised. ( I will try it with my broken car 2morrow mayB it will work as well :-)))))))

    Gracias, mi esposa estaba tan preocupada por la camara al ver que salia ese error... y vino hacia mi casi llorando de tristeza, como yo estaba navegando en internet, me meti al google y teclee DSC-P71 E:61:00 y KAZAAAAAM! aparecio esta página en donde viene la explicacion de como arreglar el error...       Pudiste solucionarlo entonces? Si pudiste mejor asi!!!, me paso lo mismo hace 2 años y lo pude solucionar rapidamente con la explicacion en ingles que habian dado. A mi entender es como si un tornillo o engranaje dentro la camara quedara trabado, y no hiciera foco. Bueno, me despido desde Buenos Aires.! suerte!

    MUCHAS GRACIAS por los comentarios y soluciones que dais en el foro, PERO a mí no me han servido de nada. La cámara dio un golpe en el suelo y sale el famoso error 61:00 y mucho me temo que no tiene solución. Ya he intentado por activa y pasiva lo de forzar el enfoque y no va... lo que me queda es tirarla a la mesa, pero no creo que sea la solución :-). Sólo os quería enviar este correo por si hay alguien que como a mí no se le arregle, que no desespere. Ojalá hubiese tenido la suerte de los que lo solucionaron... Gracias. Un saludo.

      Presneto el mismo problema de E: 61:00, el lente sale, pero tarda en encender la pantalla y no funciona el sun, dando como resultado fotos fuera de foco, tampoco funciona el focalizador infrarrojo. Espero puedan sugerirme cual es eñ probñema real, cinta averiada, tornillo trabado, etc. Un saludo Gracias

    sony dcr-hc26 la compre hace unos 6 meses, me la trajeron de afuera, resulta que SIN tener golpes aparecio el famoso error e:61:00 y la lleve al service oficial de sony en Mendoza (hay dos Autoaudio y Video Sistemas) la lleve a AUTOAUDIO y no solo me cobraron cualquiero pelo... sino que cuando la fui a buscar andaba, la deje guardada una semana, la fui a usar para un cumple y que aparecio el famoso e:61:00. Por lo tanto va devuelta al bendito "service oficial" donde NO le hicieron nada y encima termine pagando como un salamin. Si alguien sabe como se arregla que por favor me explique, lo de la mesa NO se puede hacer por que el lente no sale, ni entra esta integrado en la camara o sea el lente es integrado a la camara y la marca del lente es carl zeiss vario-tessar carl zeiss vario tessar y no entra ni sale solo se ve que funciona pero NO hace foco cuando aparece el error.

      fijate q el tema del zoom no es q tenga a salir..solo tenes q poner (al menos a mi me funciono) la camara enfocando hacia abajo a 2 cms de una mesa y hace zoom hacia adelante hasta el final, cuando llegues al final no lo sigas forzando, luego retrocede hasta llegar a 1X, apaga y volve a encender, fijate si se fue el error, sino hace lo mismo un par de veces con el zoom. El tema es q en algun momento se tiene q ir el ruidito q hace. si acercas al oido se escucha q el motor del FOCUS funciona continuamente, eso tiene q desaparecer cuando se va ese error.     Hi. I had a similar problem with a Sony W1 camera. The lenses remained in the outside and I got the message "Vuelva a encender la camara" (Return to turn on the camera). I put the camera with the lens on the table. With full battery and in movie mode, I tried over and over to power on the camera. After a few trials the message disappeared and returned to normality. From Buenos Aires too. Thanks to everyone in the forum. Hola. Tuve un problema similar con una cámara fotográfica Sony W1. Las lentes permanecían en el exterior y obtenía el mensaje "Vuelva a encender la camara". Puse la cámara fotográfica con las lentes sobre la mesa. Con la batería en carga plena y en modo de película, intenté repetidamente encenderla. Después de algunos ensayos el mensaje desapareció y volvió a la normalidad. Desde Buenos Aires también.   I have the CCD-TRV16 camera and it had the E:61:00 error after lending it to a friend. Go figure... Anyways, I tried starting the camera looking down at a surface with no luck. I then tried looking up with the camera and adjusted the zoom over the full range and it started working fine. If it works for me it may work for others...

    Beleive it or not banging the side of the camera a couple of times on the side (next to the lens) worked for me and apparantly many others. Three slight bangs on a table top and.....no more error message & welcome back auto focus.

      THANK YOU SO MUCH!! This is my second Sony and I was about ready to give up on them! I wouldn't of even bought a second one, but I had invested a fortune on those ridiculous memory sticks that cost twice as much as other medias. Anyways according to Sony this would of cost me $181 to get fixed! I still have my first Sony and it also has this error and I'm thinking of trying that as well! Amazing! THANK YOU AGAIN!     I also have DSC-P100 camera And i don-t know why but the other day it gave me E:61:00 error I thought thats it, i need a new camera, other then the error, camera was completely out of focus. So i searched on google and came across this...and ACTUALLY hitting the side, where the lens is, couple of times with my hand, and then turning it off and on and it fixed the problem...HAHAHAHAH I cant believe this...thanks guys....hahaha

  Praise the Lord..!!! Thanks to you guys, my Sony DSC-P120 is now alive again. I used the "dropping method". Held the cvamera about 25 cm above my wooden desk and dropped it on the bottom....Hey Presto...Its now working perfectly.
