I also had this problem, found this link and tried the whacking method... I tried dropping it like 6-7 times at different heights and hitting my hand with it with no avail.. I tuned off the auto/smart zoom and dropped it from about 2 feet on my linoleum floor... IT WORKS! I can focus again! Try and try again! Good luck!
