Same problem on the GR-DVL505 model. I tapped the sides (all of them) and I was able to get it out of Safeguard mode. Then, for the first time, the unit said head cleaning required. I've only recorded about 12 hours of tape since I got the camera a couple of years ago.

DLV300 Said Headf Cleaning required (after some years of function and 20-30 casettes)
Then when I loaded the cleaning casette went into E04 Unit In Safeguard Mode
I used the solution provided here. Hit it on both sides and it turned back into work mode. LOL

I have found this on the Pechorin's website: Re[6]: JVC error codes assistance Dee - 26th Mar 2005 12:26 I used the solution provided here for my GR -DVL767 after it being on the shelf for 18 months. To my surprise it's working now. Thanks But I can't find the solution which helped you. Can you help as today I am getting "Error Code E06 Unit in safe mode". If I put a tape into the camera tape becomes loose and dangles out of the cassette. I tried another tape with the same result. HELP! Kind regards Penny
