Holy crap, I tried this and it actually worked. For my attempt, I also added a THOROUGH blasting with a can of compressed air directly into the cassette compartment and the battery contacts. Good luck all.

I can't believe this worked for me! Just one hard slam on the right side w/ cassett out and it worked! thanks for saving me $200 bucks. I love the internet!
