Sony Trinitron TVs

anonymous Posted Dec 31, 2004

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

Our 27" Sony Trinitron TV just died today. Tube will not turn on and I hear the clicking sound like its trying to power up. Standby light flashes 2 times in a row. I tried the Hair Dryer trick but it did not work. Very Disappointed in this, I thought Sony was suppose to be a good brand name. Manufacture Date: Oct 2002 Model#: KV-27FS100 Serial Number#: A417222

I have a SONY Trinitron (32XBR400). Same problem - blank screen, good sound and able to change channel. Repairman came by to take a look at problem - he "revuvenated" the TV - claiming weak CRT (repairman stated to me he has seen this same [problem on a number of SONY Trinitron's). Bottom line - the picture tube is gone and needs to be replaced ... need to buy a new TV. BTW - I called SONY Customer Service - not worth the phone call - were of no help whatsoever.

My 2001 Trinitron color t.v.: KV-32XBR450 is not opening. When I open it it goes to standby and just stays like that.

Sony DV-20FS100 manufactured in 4/2003. Stand by light blinks when plugged in. Takes almost 30 minutes to 1 hour of trying to turn on for the set to warm up enough to run. If left unplugged for at least a week, it will turn on. I give up.

I encountered the same problem. My 14" Sony Wega KV-14N80 was bought last May 9, 2002. After 6-1/2 years of use last Jan.26,2008, it suddenly went into a standby-like mode wherein the red light just keep on blinking & automatically turning off the TV without any human intervention. If the cost of repair would exceed P3000, I would rather buy a brand-new 14" Changhong TV! I heard they're not only good, but they're cheap compared to Sony TV's!

Yep, same here, have a sony 14" Triniton, some months ago it started switching off on its own. First it makes a hissing sound, then it goes off with the red pilot light blinking on and off, on and off, ad nausea. The I pull the power off and back on and it light back up (although sometimes it will just not budge and not light up). Bought in 1999. 10 years of service is all you get ? From what I hear, parts are expensive and not readily available! Sony you lost me ! I'll buy a Samsung LCD, I hear they are super good.

We purchased our TV about 4 years ago and now cannot turn it on. Just shut off and we're seeing the red blinking standby light.
