Sony Trinitron TVs

anonymous Posted Dec 31, 2004

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

I have a sony triniton and it is in balckout mode all of the time. It's a 36 or 37 inch. My son can't watch his shows because it blacks out!!!! Is the repairs costly??? I bought the tv in the late 90's

I purchased the Sony KV-32FS120 at the middle part of 2006 and it went out last summer. (July 2008) I had just bought my first house and wanted a nice size tv for my bedroom. Actually, that was the first and last Sony I will ever purchase. I still have not replaced it. But I look at it everyday soming and going out of my garage.

Central Mexico. SONY TRINITRON 23ยดยด, Bought it in 2003, and in July 2009 it just didn't want to start. Blinkin 4 consecutive times and stoppin and so on. We had to press the "ON" button for 1 minute after the click sound to turn it on, but now we have to be there for 10 consecutive minutes!!! I got tired of it, I'm getting a new one (NOT a SONY of course!) I guess this post will be just for informative purposes ( that "I am not the only one with that problem") because I don't think I'm getting a response from SONY :( . tooooo dissapointed.........

The red blinking stand by light continues to blink...but we unplugged and plugged it back in...still nothing! I have several other smaller tv's a panasonic and a Zenith...20-25 years old...and they still work fine! I WON"T buy a Sony again! If anyone can help me fix this problem I would appreciate it! Have KV-36HS510 6yrs old (just out of warranty). Live in USA. We really like this TV, it looks great, sounds great. Recently had the red blinking light, no picture, no sound. Found bad IC chips(2) Pt.# MCZ3001D & MCZ3001DB. Chip cost online $4.80. Chip cost from repairman who did repair $45.00. Repair was expensive, but it was the going rate for this type repair. Found out that this is a known issue to Sony. Apparently Sony has some bad IC chips in some of their units, and they admit it. Read that Sony Japan is fixing TV's with the bad chips free of charge, even if they are outside warranty. My local Sony authorized Service dealer told me I need to contact Sony America to try to get a refund on the repair cost. I'll fight that fight when I get time. I guess I'm in the wrong country.

I have a Sony FD Trinitron Wega model number KV-36XBR450 purchased in November, 2001. Same problem. Television doesn't turn on. We figured out that if you pull back a panel on the right side, stick a hairdryer back there and blow hot air for awhile, the television will switch on. But it won't stay on and switches off on its own after awhile. Annoying, to say the least, when you're in the middle of your favorite program. Sometimes it responds to the remote, sometimes it doesn't, in which case it's back to the old hair dryer again. I called Sony about a possible repair: $60.00 for the house call. Minimum labor of $154.00 plus parts and tax. The repair guy says it could be the transformer ($120-$140)or the circuit board, which, of course, is no longer available. Recently, I was at a party and found out two friends were experiencing the same problem with their Sonys--both different models, including one that is a 55-inch LCD television. I'm never buying Sony again! Big bucks for poor quality!

It seems like sony tv's are designed to last about 10 yrs only, to me that seems like garbage. Model KV-27s42 and KV-27s40.
