Thank you V V much for your prompt reply. That would have baffled me forever. What a lovely idea, all that compact electronic engineering crammed into that tight case... and a stowaway loose pin that does? nothing??? :-) Thanks again as I know you've no reason to help a hapless fool with a screwdriver!!

    I've just looked to put this pin back. Is it really that square hole (with a round hole at the back) near a lable "SA" something on the black plastic of the lens assembly? Looks like it's designed to transfer any impact on the front of the casing to the rear (or just to make your t1 rattle), which should provide some additional protection to the lens assembly (hopefully without risk to the lcd!).
