Beleive it or not banging the side of the camera a couple of times on the side (next to the lens) worked for me and apparantly many others. Three slight bangs on a table top and.....no more error message & welcome back auto focus.

  This trick worked on my syber shot digital camera./ I was quoted at $150 from sony to fix it. I am glad I found this. Thanks

  THANK YOU SO MUCH!! This is my second Sony and I was about ready to give up on them! I wouldn't of even bought a second one, but I had invested a fortune on those ridiculous memory sticks that cost twice as much as other medias. Anyways according to Sony this would of cost me $181 to get fixed! I still have my first Sony and it also has this error and I'm thinking of trying that as well! Amazing! THANK YOU AGAIN! I never thought this would work.
