Today is your lucky day (9 months after my inquiry and no reply from JVC...). In both cases it was a faulty (partially shorted?) flyback. It seems the test part from another Main board had the same problem. It seems these parts are made of inferior quality (or a bad batch for 2001?) being only a few years old as I've seen TVs that are 10+ years still running on the original flyback.
