G. Wood Posted Oct 04, 2005

7 YR. OLD sONY tRINITRON JUST WENT BLACK with NO SOUND. In a nanosecond went from working fine to D E A D !!!

I'm a pencil pushin' NON-tech couch potatoe. This appears to be a common problem - reallyloooks like a manufacturer's defect ??? Please recommend if it's repairable at anything close to reasonable cost - or should it be donated to TV HELL ??? What's a better brand ???? Sony costs more.... FOR WHAT ??? Many thanks, y'all. This sure sounds like grounds for a clASS action suit.I just had a KP-46S25 do the same thing! I have to hit the power button twice on the remote for the power to come on for one second and standbye light will flash once and the power button on the set has to be held in for 2-3 seconds and you can hear the power surge on and the timer light will blink continuious.I will never buy another sony product in my life after reading all these responses to "there goes another one"bye the way I thank you for posting that and I bet sony is hatting you now LOL.PS the set was Manufactured 1998. Now that's somthing?I was just thinking that In 1992 or 1993 I bought a 52" RCA it had been discontinued and was the "DEMO" or floor model at Montgomry Wards which is out of buisness now, I know it was two years old when I bought it from the manufatures date.I rarely watched the set because it was in the living room which was not used much at all.that set did the same thing as this one is doing but it would not stay on it would make the same noise and then the LED would flash twice and turn off. I still have the set and I am going to check the manufactures date just to see if the seven year itch is catchey. What about the auto industries and that most manufactures recent increse on warrenties from 7 to 10 years sounds fishy.

MY SONY KV-27V40 BECAME INOPERATIVE ON 12/01/2006. THE ONLY POWER INDICATION IS A RED BLINKING LED LIGHT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CONSOLE. SONY IS CHEAP!!!!

My TV died the same way mid-flight, Timer light 4 pulses and repeat the cycle. It is Sony's ET calling home on your dime! Talk about built in obsolescence. I contacted SONY and they don't want to own the problem. I think we should start writing emails to the Sony's big chief and complain. At least tell them we are not going to pay top dollars for Sony's inferior products any more. I thank all of you for putting the information out here. Cheers, - b

This just happen to us Nov.14th,2005 8:15pm central. We have the Sony KV-27V40 (manufacture date October 1998) and it just died, no warning! WOW this seems to be a commmon problem. No warning other than the screen did a little vertical wiggle and then poof, the screen is gone, just like we had turned it off or something. The standyby/timer light flashes 4 times and then repeats every couple of seconds. Power button turns on the relay (I can hear it but nothing else, no picture, no sound, sounds like it always has when the power button pushed to turn the TV on) and the power light comes on four about 5 seconds and then turns back off. No picture, no contols, no nothing after that. Stereo(I think its a power light) light would come on right after this happened when power button pushed and then turn off. Now that light just stays on and the timer/standby light conitinues to flash at me like some bad joke, as if it is going to come back on when the timer times out. It just teases me flashing away there and I am helpless. Anybody got suggestions other than takin this bad boy to the local landfill and throwing a brick throught the front of it?

My SONY KV-27 V40 had just died with standby light blinking. It's about 7.5 years old and it just went all of a sudden. How funny that we all experience this failure at approximate the same time?! It begs to ask some questions.

Ditto everything Phil posted, except my problem started a month ago. The blinking gets worse with time. When I hit the power button it takes about two minutes for the screen to come on... In another month I'll be able to use it as a 32" strobe light.

Same here.. Mine just went out say 15 mins back i.e on Nov 8th 2005 at 11:15 p.m. All going well and suddenly, ***ALL GONE*** in just a second. What the heck man.. All this seems to be a conspiracy to claim service money and/or buy another TV. And guess what.. I've been thinking of buying a DLP 60-65" for the last 2 weeks and was trying to sort out between Samsung, Mitsubishi and SONY. So it seems that SONY is def. ruled out as these f**rs have some hard coded stuff in it to cease working after approx 7 yrs. I purcahsed it somewhere around June 1998 as far as I remember.

This is ridiculous...mine just went out a few days ago while I was away. My wife said they were watching the TV and then *POOF* it went dead! What gives!???
