Sony DSC-W1 - LENS will not close - E:61:00 ERROR CODE

Flashing on screen. Camera will not focus, blurry image on LCD - Lens will attempt to close on power down but will not. Makes noise and that's it.

Please advise if camera has no hope or there is a reset fix.

    I know it sounds wierd but it worked perfectly for me. I just banged it (lightly) on my palm a few times and it works perfectly now.

    banging helped me too, just throw it onto your hands and it works again! i didn´t believe this, but now it works perfect :-))))))))))

      Hi Guys I dropped it and whacked it! Was about to give up when I smacked it intp my hand twice and 'hey presto' it worked!!!! Fantastic!!!! Cheers Guys ;-)

    I just banged on the base lightly and it worked like a charm. Had I sent it to Sony for repair, chances are they would have banged on it as well ... but for $300+. Thank you all.

    It works ! Had the same problem (error code, the lens would not retract = unusable camera) and I banged it on the base with my hand as described in the above posts and it works! Sony wanted 181$ at least to fix it! Thanks a lot!

  I had dropped my camera. Wouldn't focus, had error message 61:00. Sony page no help.I read the comments on this page, and another page, all saying to bang the camera. I was reluctant to do this, but didn't want to pay a high repair bill that may be half the price of the camera. May as well buy a new one than repair it!
  So, I banged it a few times on the bottom on a book, and presto! It's back to focusing properly!

  Had the same problem... I smacked it into my hand twice and it worked!
  
  Hate the wild rotating menu on the screen when the batteries are low, though.
