A was triyng to find out how to solve the same problem and found this.
I did something similar. I beat the lenss with a nail, not that softly, twice. And the problem was solve!

It sounds stupid, but worked! ... thanks george.

    same here. I had same problem and google out this discussion. Open camera and tickle lense with nail a couple of time. then it works.

    thanks for the tips. it saves me a lot of pain.

      do u mean take open the camera or just like slide it open like usual?

      I too was receiving the E:61 error message on my Sony camera. I took the advice and whacked it twice into the palm of my hand pretty hard and the error message went away. Thanks

    Yup, had the same problem - called Sony, they actually stated that it could be to do with 'not being used often'??? I dare say if I said I use it everyday they would have said I was using TOO MUCH!!

    Anyhow they offered a fixed price fix £114 / 3 months Warranty, so I thought I would try a cheaper option - I gave it a couple of bashes, and would you believe it - it now works!!!

    Suffice to say, I think I will be getting rid of it and buying something more robust!

    I had a similar problem all of a sudden....and just wacked it lightly on the table straight down on the lense area and the problem was solved...incredible!
    Thanks for the advise.
