Re[3]: Convergence problems on AV-48WP30

Check\Replace IC804 STK392-110, which controls Red horizontal/vertical convergence. If IC804 is defective than replace both Convergence ICs (IC804 and IC805). I suggest upgrading to two STK392-150s, for better tolerance to heat. If IC804 shows visual damage then check resistors R843,R842,R847 and R846.

      Hi Eric, I'm pretty sure we're have the same problem with our set. We have absolutely no experience fixing televisions, but the repair man told us the problem was our "convergence IC's" and quoted us a $400 repair rate.   Hi I'm have the same problem with my AV-48wp30 The problem is that I'm unable to adjust my vertical settings on the #1 spot. If you or any knows what maybe the problem please e-mail me. Also please foward a copy of the service manual.

    Check your e-mail . I sent you the manual. Remove the convergence board and check IC804 and IC805 (STK 392-110). These are the convergence outputs and have a high failure rate. If you replace them, do replace both of them and it would also be wise to upgrade to an STK 392-150. The STK 392-150 will run a lot cooler. Also, check all the 1 watt and 2 watt resistors on the convergence board for overheating. This is indicated by a dark ring on the body. If you have an ohmmeter and can check their actual resistance, better yet. Eric

      Ref: JVC - AV-48WP30 Hi Eric, I too have the Red Convergence problem. It went out yesterday and the warantee has been out for a month. I found the little white button inside the front panel. I got in to the service stuff, but could not adjust the red under any part of the system. Could you send me the manual/schematics too. Too bad they don't have a recall on this. It seems that a lot of people have this problem. I really do like the set. I must have looked at 40 sets and kept coming back to this one. Thanx, Ron J

  Could I make you a dollar richer ( so to speak ) by asking you for the same thing that everyone else has asked you for?
  
  Are they hard to replace? I will take your advise too upgrade to two stk392-150.
  
  How do I locate them in the TV. Can you give me a play by play on how to repair this.

      Eric you seem to have a great deal of knowledge on the JVC 48WP30. I went to turn on my TV tonight and it did not have a picture and it made a thump sound (heart beat-ish). I have been doing some reseach and it sounds like it has something to do with "power supply overcurrent shutdown". Are you familiar with this? It looks like the fix is to replace the convergence amps. Is that correct. If so how do you get the parts and how hard are they to install? Any help is greatly appriciated!

      Hi Eric, I too am having trouble with convergence along with everyone else. My first problem is that I don't have the user manual any longer and can not figure out how to adjust the +. I can get into the convergence menu, but do not know which buttons to use to move them. Would you mind sending me this information and a copy of the repair instructions just in case?
