Convergence problems on AV-48WP30

Can't adjust the red horizontally
Convergenge went out suddenly about a week ago. I can adjust the blue horizontally and vertically. The red will only adjust vertically. However, the horizontal is way out of whack. Any ideas? Thanks

I do not know how to fix this problem but I am in a very similar situation... We have the same model tv except we cannot adjust the red crosses horizontally... the blues are all fine but the red vertically is way off causing our screen to produce almost double images... if you have repaired your problem or know of how to... please respond... thanks

We wimped out and called a service tech. He replaced a circuit and something. The labor cost was over 200 dollars and he was only here for 55 mins. Wish I had better news.

my jvc 48" has a green tinge over the whole picture. Seems like the hd channels are better and after adjusting convergence, tint, color, evrything., it doesnt seem to help. Itmakes a nice speaker stand though....

HI,I HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEMS WITH SONY AND OTHER MAKES.SOLVE THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE STK AMPLIFIER ON THE CONVERGANCE BRD.

Excellent diagnosis by Carlos. IC804 controls red convergence. But in time IC805 will also fail as well. Replace them both with STK392-110. Also, check for cold solder joints in the vicinity of these ICs. If you want a schematic for this unit e-mail me.

Having a red convergence problem with a JVC AV-65WP74. The red will not adjust side to side, have a big red shadow over the entire screen.

Check\Replace IC804 STK392-110, which controls Red horizontal/vertical convergence. If IC804 is defective than replace both Convergence ICs (IC804 and IC805). I suggest upgrading to two STK392-150s, for better tolerance to heat. If IC804 shows visual damage then check resistors R843,R842,R847 and R846.

Well Eric you seem to be the person to talk to,I to just had the same problem happen this morning. I cant get the blue all to line up and all the red but one.Please send me the same info you sent the other people. It would be a big help and are these cards you spoke of something i can replace myself??

Do you still have the schematic for the AV-48WP30? I need to replace those chips also. Someone menthioned in a forum to purchase the 150 version of the chip instead of the original 110.

Eric, You seem to have an excellant understanding of this TV. My problem while similar, is a little different. I am able to adjust the convergence crosses vertically and horizontally and achieve a white cross. My problem is the left top cross sits lower than the other crosses across the top. the left top portion of the screen is slightly out of focus with some halo effect and straight lines are distorted. Thanks Eric Your files were a major help.
Had a problem with Blue Convergence, you sent me files and assisted with some helpful information. Replaced IC chips and TV works great. I did try a little upgrade. The convergence chips are 0.10 centers like normal IC so I purchased some IC sockets. The Hybrid chip pins are standard spacing but not standard diameter and the pins would not fit in the sockets so they had to be hard soldered back in. A good solder removal tool is a must for this repair. Thanks again Eric.

I have the AV-48WP30 and it looks like I'm having the same convergence problem. The red is way off to the right and it will not move far enough to the left to center up. Also, the top left corner and bottom left corner look as though they are rolling down to the right (can't center). Could you please forward the manual to me as well.
What is a DVM (Tool you mentioned you would need)?

I'm having problems with our JVC AV-48WP30 screen TV.
I really need help there is green, purle and pink shadowing around the person and around everything else. I went to a convergence screen but can't figure out how to correct the problem, I can move the arrow around but when trying to get the green color or purple color to align, I can't move them.
Could you help, I hope this is free service. If there is a charge please don't send any reply and ignore this request.

There is no charge for advice. But you have to post your e-mail address in
order for me to send you instructions.
You have a convergence problem and will have to remove the Convergence Out PWB from your TV and replace two IC chips.
This will require a desoldering tool and some soldering experience.
If you don't feel up to the task, perhaps you can remove the circuit board and take it to a local shop to repair.
The Convergence Out PWB is removed from the front of the TV and is very easy to get at.

My red convergence has failed on my AV-48WP30. It streaks to the right, more so on the right side of the set than the left. From what I've read here, I think dropping a couple STK392-150s in may fix it. Eric, can you send me the installation instructions please? Thank you.

I found this posting and I am hoping you can help me. I turned on my
TV today and there are fine red horizontal lines streaking in a sagging line pattern all over my TV. I tried the auto convergence with no luck. I tried the manual and I can line up the vertical lines but the horizontal lines aren't straight so there is no chance of lining those up. My model number is AV-48WP74. I would appreciate any advise. Hi, I am having convergence problems to I see goosts in three colors, and at the center of the scren it seems all is ok, but at the top of the screen, a green arch is present, and at the bottom a red arch is present if you can send me the diagram and the most information you can I will thank you.

Hi, I have an issue with my JVC AV-48WP30.
The screen has large red streaks from the left.
Also the red color convergence is way off.
If this is the same issue you had stated you had a repair

Hi, my problem seems to be a little worse. I have no experience with tv's but a little with computers. my convergence was off for about 3 months, but i was able to fix it.After three months the, the screen completely went out with different color lines. I have narrowed the problem down to what i think is the convergence board. The screen completely going out happens every time we leave the tv off for more than an hour and i am able to fix it by wiggling this board(kinda stupid but it works). Thanks

could you please send me the schematics for the JVC 48WP30 TV?
as I am having trouble with the convergence I had the same trouble a year ago and paid a tech to fix it now I am having trouble with the blue and green color and am unable to adjust it the convergence I would like to fix it myself also would you happen to know where i could purchase the parts to fix?

i have this same JVC TV and the red convergence is out! dips on top and bottom of screen. Can i fix this my self? Do you have a diagram for me? i was told i should change both (2) convergence chips .Anything else, and do i just take off the back!

Eric: have been reading about all the convergence problems with the JVC AV-48WP30. Unfortunately after 4 years the red convergence problem on mine has appeared. Can you please email me the schematics for the affected area so I can replace the STK chips and any affected resisters etc.

I have a jvc av 48wp30 rear projection screen television.
About 5 months ago the convergence went out so I had a tech come out and replace the convergence IC's, he used two stk 392 110's.
A week ago ago the screen got an hourglass shape with the top and bottom screen bowing badly coupled with double vision look on screen.
I used the remote to attempt to adjust the convergence but although I could ge the arrows to move, i was unable to get the arrows to move far enough to get them lined up properly. Then just a few days ago after the set had been on for about 10 minutes it made a popping sound and the screen went dark. The blue power light continued flashing so i unplugged the set.
I ordered two more of the stk 392 110 convegence ic's online and received today. I carefully removed the old IC's and very meticulously reinstalled the new IC's. I even used a magnifying glass to make sure all new solders were secure.
The screen now lights up but i still have the convergence problem and when i attempt the use the remote to adjust the convergence the arrows won't move at all.
I have looked online to try to remedy the situation but have not found anyone with these exact circumstances. I am not a techie by any stretch of the imagination so in laymans terms can someone advise me on what they think the problem may be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to be having a similar problem with the same set(surprise surprise). I turned mine on yesterday and the convergence was way off everywhere but in the center of the screen. Also, there are fine horizontal lines across the top that have a 'wave' effect to them. When I try to set the convergence in the setup, the middle is fine, the bottom is off to the left, and the top is slanted towards the right and fluctuates as you are looking at it. Would this be a convergence board or STK problem as well?

Is it like a ghost red image. It's probably the STK392-110 convergence correction chip on the convergence board There are two of them the one the red one id right behind the input for the red gun I think it's U804. It's a 18 pin desolder and resolder once you get the board out.

Can you email me the relevant portions of the service manual also? had my TV for four years and would like to see if we can replace the parts ourself if possible. We're up in a rural area, hard to get a tech out here.

Well I lucked out I had forgotten I bought the 2 year extended warranty. So I called the place I got it from to get a price on getting it fixed and they informed me I was in my last month of my Warranty!! The cost of getting it fixed would have been about $375 and I had to bring the TV to them. Even though it is a HUGE hassle you will come out a LOT CHEAPER by taking the TV to the repair shop. I think it is a chip in it that they reset or something cause when I got it back a week later It worked fine for about 2 weeks and when I returned it they actually replaced the chip with a off brand supposedly better chip. But I have to say even though I ended up losing input 1 it has worked fine ever since and that was 6 months ago. Hope this lets you know what you are in for.

I fixed it using two STK392-110 ic's I bought for $7 a piece from ebay. Remove the front plastic enclosure. You should see a wood access panel. The circuit board with the two ic's is located just inside the access panel. A piece of cake if you have the right tools (desolder and soldering equipment). I noticed the original ic's has a small drop of heat sink compound. This probably lessened the life of those ic's. I made sure I covered the whole back side with the stuff.
My $1,000 + tv now works by replacing less than $20 worth of parts! I am glad I found this thread!!

my tv is a jvc av-56wp74 but i don't have problem with the blue or the red its a green arch in the top middle of my screen how can i fix that i called a tv repair man he came out and told me that it was an amp and a resistor and wanted to charge me $350.00

Hello mike im reading all these storys about the JVC tv and im wondering if we hav the same problem with ours but ita a sansung not a JVC tv we hav this like red line doen the middle of are screen and it wont go away we can tape anythink or onto dvd and theres no line in the picture so can you give your opinon please mike as ive read your story about you buying a couple of bits for around 20 bucks and fix it well we would love to get rid of ours if possible thankyou nike look forward to hearing from you many thanks peter
