I worked in sony service. it was policy if a part was on BO for 20 days and the unit was in warranty it was to be replaced. if out of warranty they would offer a trade up to a newer model at reduced price.

    I gave up and bought a new tv. The cost to fix it was equal to the cost of another unit with the same quality, so I bought an HDTV instead. I won't be buying any Sony TV's anymore, however. The day of the extended warranty hidden cost in purchasing a TV is not a happy situation, imho. C#
